Acne-prone skin

A consultation first, then one step at a time

Anna Ellsworth is a licensed esthetician with a private room on Augusta Street. She asks before she acts, does one thing at a time and writes down what she notes at every visit.

The series

Six visits, two to three weeks apart

Skin changes slowly, so Anna works in a series. Each visit ends with a written note of what she saw. No note predicts how your skin will look.

  1. 01
    90 min

Step 1: Consultation and first facial

Anna asks about your routine, looks under the lamp and does a first facial. She notes where you break out.

  2. 02
    60 min

Step 2: A facial, then what changed

A facial with extractions where your skin allows. She notes what changed since the last visit.

  3. 03
    60 min

    Step 3: Home-routine review

A facial, and time to go through what you use at home. She notes what you've stopped, started and skipped.

  4. 04
    60 min

    Step 4: A facial, adjusted

A facial adjusted from the notes: an LED add-on, a calmer mask or shorter extractions.

  5. 05
    60 min

    Step 5: Second routine check

Another look at the routine, against both sets of notes.

  6. 06
    60 min

    Step 6: A look back

You and Anna read all six notes and decide what comes next. If a dermatologist should see a pattern, she says so.

The consultation

Every client starts with a conversation

Before any facial, Anna learns your skin: what you use, what you've tried and what happens after you wash your face. The consultation is its own 30-minute visit, or the first half of your first visit, and it comes before any series.

  • What you use now, and in what order

  • Where you break out, and when

  • What you'd like from a visit

  • What Anna notes down, and a copy for you

When to see a dermatologist

We'll suggest a dermatologist when

A facial can't do everything, and Anna would rather say so than keep booking you. She will suggest a dermatologist, or your doctor, when:

  • Breakouts that are deep, painful or lumpy

These sit deeper than a facial reaches, so a facial isn't the right next step.

  • A mark that lingers, or a scar forming

She'll note it and suggest someone who can look at it properly.

  • A spot or mole that is changing

Anything that grows, bleeds or changes color goes to a doctor, not a facial.

  • Skin that is hot, swollen or oozing

Anna will ask you to see a doctor before booking again.

  • Breakouts that started suddenly

Especially alongside other changes in how you feel, or after a new medicine.

  • Notes that look the same after six visits

If the series changed nothing she can see, she says so and suggests the next person to ask.

Questions

Short answers before you book

What happens at a first visit?

You start with a consultation: your routine, what you use, how your skin behaves. Anna looks at your skin under a magnifying lamp and writes down what she notes. If you booked the first visit with a facial, the facial follows, adjusted to what you talked about. Plan on 90 minutes.

How long does a visit take?

The consultation alone is 30 minutes. A deep-cleansing facial is 60 minutes, and the first visit with both is 90. Every service on the menu lists its own time.

Do I need a consultation first?

Yes, once, before your first facial and before any series. It is how Anna learns your skin and your routine. If you come back after a long break, she starts with a short check-in.

Can I come in with a breakout?

Yes. Tell Anna when you book. She may suggest a calmer visit or another day, and she'll tell you why.

What happens when you suggest a dermatologist?

Anna says so at the visit and writes down why. She doesn't diagnose, and she doesn't promise that a facial will change a skin condition. If your doctor agrees, she can still see you for calmer visits while you wait for an appointment.
